Almiraz Popiah

Yesterday I made fried popiah with chicken filling for buka puasa. At first, a colleague wrote in FB whether to have popiah or kuih ketayap and so suddenly it struck my mind that popiah would be nice for berbuka....hehe...

Among the hurdles were, A. Kulit popiah not available at home B. Don't know recipe and C. Ayam belum keluar dari freezer. So, I asked my dad to buy the kulit popiah and chicken fillet. His response was, "I don't know how kulit popiah looks like". Ok, finally, my younger brother bought it but the the round shape ones...oklah kot, I thot...these solved A and C.

For B, I Googled and Googled and wasn't quite satisfied that that's the one recipe I was looking for (macam pandai jer....). Anyway, after sometime, and after taking bits and pieces of peoples' recipe, I managed to come out with my own....hehe..

Almiraz Popiah

Kulit popiah
2 chicken fillet (cut into dices)
1 Yellow onion (minced)
1 carrot (grated)
¼ sengkuang (grated)
A bit of daun bawang
1 handful of bean sprouts
1 kiub ayam Maggi
Kicap cair
garam, gula, Aji, pepper

First, fry onions with kiub ayam, bila dah kuning, masuk ayam tadi. Then, bila ayam dah masak, masukkan kicap cair, sos tiram (if you like) and all the perasa. Then masuk veggies and kalau nak tambah lagi, potong cili merah (buang biji) and dice, toss them together. Goreng sampai kering, then put aside. Later, put on popiah skin and roll. Use white egg to stick the skin together.

Ok, semalam bila tengok inti, dah satisfied dah.. (chewah) then bila part rolling…urrrghhhh…sengal betul kulit popiah bulat ni lembut sangat (maybe I ke yang kasar). Anyway, last2 jadikla jugak, dengan perasaan tensi, rupa popiah bukan seperti yang dijangkakan. Hilang mood nak buat air sejuk manis. Basically hilang mood to do anything. That’s why no original picture here, sekadar gambar hiasan jerk. Then, nak dekat buka, popiah yang rupanya tak seberapa itu telah digoreng. Eh, habis pulak popiah ni….hehehhe..

Lesson learnt; get the square popiah skins. It would be better. As for the inti…I think it’s perfect!

btw, kulit popia bulat tu utk popia basah kan? sbb tu dia lembut. kalau u guna yg square one tu bleh lekat pakai air je.as for the inti, next time i nak try recipe u..hehe..i punya simple sgt.

i buat inti ayam jugak..pastu add mixed veggies. teringat plak ada leftover kentang rebus so i masuk je..pasni ingat nak tambah sayur lg kot. ada org bubuh kobis.bleh buat lg pasni sbb kulit popia yg i beli tu byk sgt sampai 40 keping..haha
