School Hunting (SRAI or SK?)

So Amir will be in standard 1 next year!!...How time flies, my baby will fly away to the world outside. Sekarang ni just pegi pre-school and balik rumah. That's it. Takde pegi art class ke apa bagai.

I registered him online on the Sistem Pengurusan Murid Tahun 1 Online under the Jabatan Negeri Selangor. Easy peasy you just have to insert Mykid details and home address.

At the same time, my husband and I would want Amir to be in Islamic school so that he doesn't have to rush back, have lunch and off to Sekolah Agama pulak. It will be so tiring for a kid his age. Sian dia nanti. So we prepped him for SRAI school (Sekolah Rendah Agama Integrasi). Ada exam in order to enter the school. Kalau pass exam tu baru boleh masuk SRAI.

(Note: SRAI is under JAIS and considered as private school under federal territory).

Syarat kemasukan SRAI:

1. Register di Online di Sistem Pengurusan Murid Tahun Satu - pilih sekolah SK

2. Register di SK yg di pilih

3. Register di SRAI - amik borang in April and submit (mesti ada proof dh register SK)

4. Exam in June

5. Results in July

Amir is very playful, takut pulak dia tak excel nanti. But at his age memang dia pikir main je.

Anyway, my husband and I prepped him up since we registered him in April. Dari taktau membaca, 2 bulan I ajar dia English, Maths, BM while my husband ajar Jawi, lepas solat. Tiap-tiap malam. Ahad je rest.

Kitorang guna 3 jenis buku iaitu:

1. Buku Koleksi Soalan Latihan SRAI

IMG_4940 Buku Koleksi Soalan Latihan SRAI

It's RM11 and you can buy it at the school all year round (depending on the availability of the books). It's a compilation of sample questions for those who will be taking the Ujian Kelayakan Tahun Satu (UKS), as they call it. So, buku ni dah macam belacan dah, dah buat padam, buat dan padam, pastu I taught him to read the instructions himself.

Apparently, teachers will not read the instructions for you, my dear 6 years olds...(sian I tengok budak2 nih). Moms take note ya!

2. Buku Cepat Membaca Jawi (kaedah BDN – Baca Dan Nombor)

I bought this book. It's RM29 and I puas hati sebab Amir from zero Jawi to now spelling words on his own without paper. Alhamdulillah....(tulis tu kena praktis lagi). Buku ni bagus. Recommended.

3. Buku-buku Kumon

IMG_4938 Kumon books

Somehow Kumon books have a system, and I think they're fun and attractive. I used these books to teach him English and Maths. Tapi still didnt help 100%. For example, I had to ask Amir to memorise basic sounds like 'ike' 'oke' 'ake' - for example. Sebab Amir ni confused with BM and English...(kitorang tak ckp English kat rumah, kadang-kadang je)...

June came and Amir sat for the exam.

Ada 500 plus 6 year old who took the exam but the school can only take 200 plus....ramai gile.

We waited nearly 3 hours at the school canteen. Lepas dh habis tu muka Amir mcm ok je, bila ditanya macamana, dia cakap ok ok. I was not convinced. At that point I redha je kalau dia tak dapat.

Last month dapat result, checked online in JAIS website. Amir passed! Alhamdulillah tak sia-sia usaha kitorang, dan dengan izin Allah dia lepas exam tu. After this harap dia boleh adapt and suka sekolah tu, InsyaAllah.

my youngest brother masuk SRAI tu... quite senang nak uruskan... masa tu my parents keja and payah nak balik lunch hour... sekolah tu masuk 7.30 and balik 4.30 kalau x silap... kalau ada kat putrajaya, most definitely akan register my kids kat situ...

Jelly Bunny in KLCC

A hybrid of Jelly Beans and Hunny Bunny…..Hehehe..I’m just joking…Attention shoe lovers! Jelly Bunny is a new shoe shop in town yawl! Situated just beside Tong Pak Fu on the Concourse floor (opposite Uniqlo, walk from Isetan towards Candylicious) I reckon this would be the new craze….(will it make the pitch again?? A blast in the past, from the 80s??)…we’ll see….Jelly Bunny KLCCAt first I thought the shoes are made of real ‘jelly’. They smell exactly like jelly beans ok. Sniffing them just confirmed to my hypothesis….hihi….Silly me, I was too excited about the jelly thing and told my friends that the shoes are made of jelly… friends sniffed my shoes too…(sorry gals). In actual fact, the shoes are made of jelly rubber and it’s from Thailand. It is purportedly to be soft and flexible and will not cause blisters.Let’s see what they have in store:Jelly Bunny Olga BowJelly Bunny BrunaJelly Bunny LiviaTop and middle: Teresa, Bottom: DanielaJelly Bunny IsabelaLarissa and BrunaJelly Bunny…
